Abstract

Operating in weak narrow vein mines presents many issues in terms of ore productivity.  Maintaining stable mining excavations and limiting unplanned overbreak are some of the main concerns in narrow vein mining.  The use of numerical modeling became a popular method for this since it is capable of examining stress patterns and identifying rockmass failure.  This paper will focus on creating a 3-dimensional constitutive numerical model for narrow vein mines that incorporate weak rockmass properties.  The Case Study Mine selected is an underground narrow vein mine joining a weak material known as talc-chlorite-schist.  The construction of this model will be associated with the unplanned ore dilution determined by surveyed profiles from the mine site.
